About us
Deep in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside on the southern edge of the Mortimer Forest, the Riverside Inn nestles cosily at the point where the western arm of the Roman Watling Street crosses the River Lugg. Rich in original features and an atmosphere created by over 300 years of hospitality, the inn welcomes all visitors to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the truly beautiful location.
Accommodation
Accommodation is available. One is individually haunted by the lady from the river. The Hayloft suite overlooks our magical river and opens onto the terrace gardens; The Stable Suite gives onto the car park, perfect for families, the less mobile and dogs.
Individually furnished and decorated, some with four hundred year old beams embedded in the walls, our substantially sized en-suite rooms await you after your evening meal.
Or stay in one of our suites. A lounge, bathroom and bedroom give you oodles of space to relax. Read, watch any of the multitude of digital channels on the TV, open the door and look out onto the ornamental garden. Walk eight steps out of the door and sit with your coffee and newspaper surrounded by lawn, bushes and flowers. Or walk 23 steps to the nearest riverside table where you can watch for the kingfisher and be soothed by the tinkle of gently flowing water. Look through the arches of the bridge and take in the gorgeous greens on the water.
All of our rooms are fitted with minibars full of tempting treats from local suppliers. The suites have Freeview TV.
The Area
On our doorstep nature immediately unfolds. Butterflies and dragonflies, dippers and otters, herring and kingfishers, brown trout and grayling all live as our neighbours. The twice daily bird chorus is as we all remember from our childhoods, varied, sweet and loud. Our collection of circular walks will take you near and far, three to fifteen miles. The most popular takes you back in time to Croft Ambrey, an elaborate Iron Age hill fort, then on to Croft Castle with its 1000 years of history. The most scary takes you to “Slaughterhouse Covert” and “Dead Woman’s Lane”. Stay three days on our transport included package and walk The Mortimer Trail from Ludlow to Kington and be rewarded with some of the most stunning views in the Marches.
From your base at The Riverside Inn, you can comfortably visit five golf courses, many churches, the black and white village trail, Ludlow, Hereford, houses and gardens, heritage sites, breweries, ciderpresses and cheesewrights, visitor centres and even a mountain bike trail.
Or just fish.
